Description
Key Functions:
- Separation: non-woven geotextiles are placed between the subgrade soil and aggregate base to prevent the intermixing of materials. This maintains the integrity of each layer, ensuring the structural stability of the construction.
- Filtration: the geotextile acts like a filter by allowing water to pass through while retaining soil particles. This prevents clogging of the drainage system and reduces soil erosion.
- Drainage: non-woven geotextiles help direct groundwater or stormwater away from the structure and therefore facilitates the flow of water within the plane of the fabric. This reduces hydrostatic pressure and prolongs the life of the infrastructure.
- Stabilization: geotextiles enhance the stability of soft or unstable soils by improving load distribution and ground strength. This is crucial in areas with poor ground conditions or heavy loads, such as parking lots and embankments.
Performance Advantages:
- Durable Construction: This product is made from 100% polypropylene for strength, flexibility, and chemical resistance
- Needle-Punched Design: Provides excellent filtration and permeability through a multi-dimensional pore structure. This structure allows water to pass through while effectively filtering out soil and other particles, preventing clogging and ensuring long-term performance.
- Long-Term Performance: This material resists UV exposure, mold, rotting and other forms of biological degradation, ensuring stability in both exposed and buried environments. The geotextiles maintain their integrity in environments with a pH range from 2 to 13, which makes them a versatile and dependable choice for challenging conditions.
- Versatile Use: The unique structure of this product allows water to pass through while effectively filtering out soil and other particles, preventing clogging and ensuring long-term performance. As well, this product functions as a barrier to separate soil and aggregate layers, controls sediment, and supports drainage systems.
Due to their effectiveness in filtration, drainage, and separation, common applications of this product :
- Erosion control (i.e. shoreline and highway embankments)
- Stabilization/separation (i.e. under patios or asphalt overlay)
- Construction underlayment
- Heavy rip-rap/boulder retaining walls
- Pond underlayment
- General landscaping
- Heavy-duty weed barrier
Geotextile Installation:
Step 1: Prep the road surface – excavate the roadway to the desired elevation and fully compact your subgrade to remove all air and tighten the soil completely
Step 2: Unroll the geotextile fabric – once the fabric is free of folds and wrinkles, overlap the fabric over the desired surface
Step 3: Sew the geotextile fabric – the fabric needs to be seamed with a dual thread lock stitch to prevent it from unthreading on the job site
*you can choose a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam, and it is recommended that you do two stitches on each seam to prevent any failure during installation
Step 4: Apply aggregate to the specified thickness – ensure that no equipment drives directly on the engineered fill, and make sure the fill reaches full compaction before starting step 5
Step 5: Lay asphalt as needed
Use Cases per Weight:
The 3.5 ounce geotextile is a versatile nonwoven fabric commonly used for drainage, filtration systems, asphalt overlay reinforcement, stabilization beneath pavers, and lightweight erosion control.
The 4.0 ounce geotextile is the perfect nonwoven fabric for areas requiring a mild level of drainage or filtration due to both its permeability and durability in exposed environments. This textile is commonly used for erosion control, filtration, aggregate and particle separation, drain protection and gas venting.
The 6 ounce geotextile is ideal for projects requiring ground stabilization, aggregate separation, and soil reinforcement. Due to its increased permeability levels and needle-punched exterior, this textile is ideal for drainage, asphalt overlay and various other filtration requirements.
The 8 ounce geotextile provides a medium strength that is ideal for long-term applications that require extra strength, high UV resistance, and high rotting prevention.
