Shade Sail Types

Choose from our selection of Shade Sail varieties! The percentage indicates the amount of sunlight blocked out, and weight is provided in gsm (grams/square meter).

Shade Sail Sizing

Our maximum size is 28′ x 28′ for all Shade Sails – no side of a rectangular or equilateral triangular Sail can exceed 28′, and no leg of a right triangular Sail can exceed 28′.

When ordering, please provide measurements of the Shade Sail material itself, excluding the D-Rings we install in the corners. This means you will need to consider the size of the gap for the hardware you plan on using. The D-Rings have a 1.2″ opening, and you’ll also need to consider the size of hardware being used to connect the D-Ring to the mounting point, and the mounting point itself.

Shade Sails may stretch about 5% over their lifetime of use, and turnbuckles can be extended to allow for additional room at the corners, so the best approach is to be conservative in your measurements.

The method of Shade Sail construction lead to concave sides; these are not perfect rectangles or triangles. Please see an example of this concavity below, which usually comes to 1′-1.5′.

Please note that while we try to provide you with precise panels, the acceptable tolerance in Shade Sails is +/- 4″.

 

Shade Sail Installation Tips

Shade Sails are meant to be installed with tension, using the corners only. Our Shade Sails come with steel D-rings in each corner, and we offer a Shade Sail Installation Kit to help with installation to your structure, but the final application is up to you!

Use turnbuckles to adjust the tension of the Sail. Start with one corner and move to the opposite corner, gradually tightening each until the Sail is taut but not overstretched.

Avoid over-tightening the Sail, as it can put too much stress on the fabric and mounting points, leading to damage over time.

When installing the Shade Sail, make sure that the attachment hardware (e.g., turnbuckles) follows the correct angle from the corner of the Sail to the mounting point. That is, the turnbuckles/ropes/cables from each corner should extend from where the the sides of the material meet, not at a different angle. Misalignment can cause tensioning issues and result in wrinkles or flapping in the wind.

You should also avoid installation that can cause abrasions along the interior of the cloth (e.g., steel cables). Improper installation will void any warranty/guarantee on the Shade Sail.

 

Regretfully we cannot accept returns on custom-made panels of shade cloth unless there is a defect in manufacturing.
